Avon Park nears Practical Completion

Published on Tuesday, 26 May 2020 at 11:56:49 AM

The re-development of Avon Park is expected to reach ‘practical completion’ on Thursday of this week.  The $1.05 million project has been jointly funded by LotteryWest, the federal government and the Shire of York. The revitalised location will provide the whole community and visitors a safe play area which will be accessible for children of all ages and abilities

The playground and skate park are complete, the turf has been laid and final areas are being concreted and tidied. Community planting days will be scheduled shortly to enable everyone to be involved in the finishing of this project and Avon Park will re-open as soon as the grass has had a little time to establish.

The playground and skate park areas will remain closed until the State Government lifts the restrictions on these facilities, which is anticipated to be mid-June, or sooner.  Two specialised elements  of the playground equipment have been held up overseas due to the pandemic and these will be installed later in July.

Shire President Cr Denese Smythe says “I have been watching the progress of this re-development with great interest.  This new space will provide a fun, active place to visit and meet up with people in the local community. The park will also act as a hub for the Riverside and Town walking trails appropriate to York’s position as a key tourism hotspot for the Wheatbelt region.”
