On Monday 17 April the Shire discovered a collapsed section of the footpath outside the Puma service station on the corner of Avon Terrace and Great Southern Highway.
We have now spoken with Watercorp and Main Roads as the collapsed section of footpath sits above a water main that services Avon Terrace.
On Friday 21 April the Shire will undertake urgent works to secure the collapsed section of the footpath to avoid damage to the water main. To complete the works safely, Water Corp will have to turn off the water to businesses and homes from the Corner of Avon Terrace/Great Southern Hwy to South Street. Water Corp will notify those impacted by the service outage on Friday 21 April. Water is expected to be restored to those impacted late Friday afternoon.
Avon Terrace will be closed to traffic entering from Great Southern Highway and detours will be in place until all repair works have been completed.
Due to the complex nature of the works, it is expected that this could take a number of weeks to complete, and the detour will remain in place until all the works have been completed. We have advised Main Roads that it could be four weeks.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
