Shire of York
Farewell to Mr Paul Martin, Acting CEO and CEO Recruitment Process
Councillors and Shire staff paid tribute last week to Mr Paul Martin on his last day as Chief Executive Officer of the Shire of York. Shire President, Cr David Wallace said, “Paul’s efforts here in York over the past three and half years are greatly appreciated by me, my fellow Councillors, the staff and the wider York community. He joined us at a time when there was a lot of work needed to bring the Shire up to the standard expected of a local government and he’s worked tirelessly to achieve those improvements.”
Mr Martin has accepted the role of CEO at the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, Perth’s fastest growing peri-urban local government area, commencing at the end of September. “We wish Paul all the best for this new career opportunity and thank him for his significant contribution to York during his time here re-establishing York as a vibrant events town,” Cr Wallace said.
At a Special Council Meeting held on 11 September 2019, Council resolved the following:
• Ms Suzie Haslehurst will be Acting CEO from 14 September to 29 September 2019 (inclusive).
• Mr Mark Dacombe will be Acting CEO from 30 September 2019 to 13 October 2019 (inclusive).
• Mr Allen Cooper will commence as Acting CEO on 14 October 2019 with a finish date being either 20 December 2019 or a date determined by Council following appointment of a permanent CEO.
Suzie Haslehurst is currently Executive Manager, Corporate and Community with the Shire of York, a position she has occupied for nearly three years. Mark Dacombe was Acting CEO of the Shire of York prior to the appointment of Paul Martin and has since held several Acting CEO positions. Allen Cooper is also a very experienced CEO and was CEO of the Shire of East Pilbara for a number of years. He has recently been Acting CEO at Shire of Quairading and Shire of Dumbleyung. Council believes he will be a good fit for the organisation until a new CEO is appointed and can commence.
Council also approved the Advertising Package for the new CEO and WALGA Recruitment has now commenced advertising the position. It is expected that the recruitment process will take at least eight to ten weeks and a future Acting CEO will provide updates on progress as it occurs.
