The Black Swan Theatre Company came to York on 1 August to hold a free public play-reading of YORK - a new work written by Ian Michael and Chris Isaacs.
The Town Hall phase 2 upgrades have recently been completed with a new sound system being installed along with electric winches and stage lighting. In addition, a number of acoustic baffles have been placed on the walls to provide sound absorption and improve sound quality. Phase 1 upgrades were completed in 2019 and included the stage being re-stumped, new stage curtains, new window drapes and painting of the interior and exterior of the building.
Set in and around a single old abandoned hospital, the play YORK moves through time to uncover the buried histories we have built over. Traversing four different eras, this daring new work sheds light on how our stories are told – and who tells them.
The audience was entranced by the play-reading and gave the artists a standing ovation. During the interval a charming performance by the York Indigenous Youth Choir ‘Mooditj Coolalingas’ was enjoyed.
Community members wishing to use the new equipment when hiring the Town Hall should contact the Shire customer service team for further info and terms of use.
