Final checks are complete and fences have come down to signal the opening of the Avon Park redevelopment project supported by Lotterywest.
To celebrate this milestone and thank the community for their patience, the Shire of York will test out the community BBQs and sound shell at the Park on Saturday 13 June with some live music and a couple of sausage sizzles staffed by Shire of York Councillors.
An official opening with a program of activities and workshops is planned for the July School holidays, pending Minister availability to attend.
Prior to the public opening Shire of York Councillors and Access & Inclusion Advisory Committee members were taken on a tour of the Avon Park re-development project.
Shire President Cr Denese Smythe said “Council is delighted with the work done to revitalise the riverfront area and create a space that will bring all of the important elements of the community together and provide a greater sense of place’.
Access & Inclusion Advisory Committee Chair Bev Penny said "the Advisory Committee has been pleased to work with the Shire of York to ensure that Avon Park is an area that is accessible and enjoyable for all".
The York Avon Riverfront is a significant place to the Ballardong Noongar people and a highly valued community asset for residents and visitors to the region.
The Shire of York acknowledges the support of Lotterywest with the Avon Park Re-development. The Lotterywest grant of $366,071 contributed to the nature play area, playground equipment, shade structures, stage area and relocation of the gazebo.
