DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT

Council provides an agency service for the Department of Transport. Transactions can be processed at Shire’s Administration Office Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.00pm.

  • Licence renewals, transfers and registration for cars, motorcycles, mopeds, caravans, trailers, buses, trucks, road trains, tractors, mobile cranes, forklifts, earthmovers, mobile farm implements and off-road vehicles.
  • Boat registrations, renewals and transfers.
  • Vehicle, farm and driver concessions.
  • Application for Custom and Special Series Licence plates are available which give you the choice of style, wording and numbering for your car number plates.
  • Drivers Licence renewals, photos and transfers.
  • Temporary and Modification Permits.
  • Department of Transport publications and forms

Driver’s Licences

 Computerised Theory Testing (CTT), Hazard Perception Tests (HPT) are available 8.30am until 3.15pm daily. These tests do not need bookings.

 Bookings are essential for all Practical Driving Assessments (PDA). All local residents can book a    PDA by attending Shire Office with a Learner’s Permit.

A qualified assessor (up to and including MR) conducts PDA tests in York every second Wednesday.

All non-resident bookings for PDA tests must be made online via the DOT Licensing Website.

Please direct all general enquiries to the Department of Transport on 13 11 56. Shire of York staff are unable to answer any phone queries.  Only clients who attend personally with ID can be given their D.O.T. information.

Vehicle Examination

The following local business is authorised to examine your vehicle. If your vehicle is currently not registered you will be required to obtain a temporary permit prior to driving your vehicle for inspection.
