Gallery 152 - Bollywood Badmashes go Bush.
Sunday 8th December 2024
An inspiring talk by artists Sultana Shamshi and Susie Vickery about the creation of their remarkable large-scale textile artwork 'Bollywood Badmashes Go Bush' and the animation the artists created to accompany it.
Bollywood Badmashes Go Bush is a collaboration between two cultures and two artists, Sultana Shamshi and Susie Vickery, both of whom have lived in Mumbai and Western Australia. Sultana takes on the animals of the bush and Susie takes on Bollywood. In a tale of derring-do reminiscent of Bollywood action movies and in the style of an Indian miniature painting (albeit on a grand scale), they tell the story of Western Australia’s endangered animals reaching out to Bollywood miscreants for help in the face of environmental destruction. Susie, an embroiderer, stitches her story and Sultana uses her jewellery skills to create a fantastical landscape made of West Australian native nuts, in which endangered creatures cavort with movie stars.
